Pediatric Pelvic Floor Therapy
Pediatric pelvic floor therapy is physical or occupational therapy for children's bladder and bowel problems, such as daytime wetting, bedwetting, constipation, stool withholding and toileting struggles, often alongside autism, spina bifida or cerebral palsy.
What to look for
- A PT or OT with specific pediatric pelvic health training (general pelvic PT is often adult-focused)
- External, play-based techniques for children; ask how they handle consent and a parent in the room
- Experience with your child's condition (autism, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, sensory issues)
- Coordination with your pediatrician, GI doctor or urologist
- Whether they bill insurance for PT/OT with a referral
